As you guys know from my Taj Mahal post, this summer I got to visit India as well as Dubai. It was an amazing and educational trip for my whole family. Going to Dubai was defiantly one of my favorite parts of the trip. In just one week, I was able to see things that I would never see back home.
Dubai is very different from what I am used to here in the US. In Dubai, it can go all the way up to 126 °F! And due to that, the city lights up at night. We went to the mall twice when going to Dubai, and we found that the only people who went to the mall during the daytime were tourists. And at night, all the residents of Dubai came. Here in America, the streets are crowded from 4-6, and all the stores like malls close at 8. But not in Dubai. In Dubai, the malls close after midnight! Not to mention, all the hotels and the streets were Buzzing with noise. One on of the attractions on the must see list is the Burj Khalifa. Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world, after the horrendous 9/11 attack. Shortly after the attack (2 years later to be exact,) the building begun it's construction, and 5 years later, the building reached 2,772 feet in height, giving it the name of the tallest building in the world. When we went to the Burj Khalifa, we had went on an elevator that took us 125 levels in one minute! Once we reached the top level 125, we are able to see all of Dubai, as you can see in the picture below. My favorite thing that we did in Dubai was the Desert Safari. After visiting the Burj Khalifa, we headed out for a Desert Safari. It took us about an hour to go from one of the biggest cities in the world to one of the emptiest deserts I have ever seen. First, we had to let air out of our tires so that we could drive on the sand without ruining our tires. Then, we drove on the sand up and down the sand dunes for about 30 minutes. Then, we reached our "camp site." There, we got henna, made a sand art, rode camels, had an authentic meal, and watched cultural preformances like belly dancing. It was all such an amazing experience. Another cool place to go for a day trip would be The Palm Jumeriah. The Palm is an area of water that the king of Dubai had islands built on in the shape of a palm tree. Below, is The Palm on a google map. The Palm has hotels, water parks, an aquarium, and even a mall. Even if you might not want to go to see all the attractions, just driving around The Palm Jumeriah is a very cool experience for all ages.

This summer, I got to travel with my family to India, and Dubai. And let me tell you, it was one of the most eventful summers I have ever had. But one of my highlights was definitely visiting the one and only, Taj Mahal. Going to this masterpiece has really opened my eyes about what love can do as well as the tragedy in love.
When we went to the Taj, we had a tour guide who gave us more history on the building, and showed us around. While there, he told us the story of the Taj Mahal. The Mughal emperor of India, Shah Jahan was expecting is 14th child from his wife Mumtaz Mahal. (I wonder where I have herd that name before.) Emperor Jahan was so excited, and that he decided to build a surprise gift for his beloved wife, the Taj Mahal. And so, construction begun. Mumtaz was not expecting a thing, and she just watched as her husband build this soon-to-be wonder of the world. But it was not destined for Mumtaz to see this gift. During the Summer of 1631, Mumtaz died while delivering her 14th child. Shah Jahan was devastated, but continued to build the building for his wife. Mumtaz was buried in the Taj when it was completed in 1648. But, this was not the story that most historians tell. But...Acording to historians from all over the world, Shah Jahan had build the monument as a tribute to Mumtaz after she had died. So, which story do you believe? The story shared by generation to generation back in India, or the story historians have uncovered? Leave your thoughts in the comments below. But anyway, you might still be wondering about what you can see in the Taj. One of the things that I enjoyed and found fascinating, was the precision to detail made by the king. Shah Jahan had built the inside of the Taj (where the tombs are,) in a beautiful way. Inside, there are crystals shaped like flowers, that when are kissed my the moonlight glow like hundreds of LED lights. In fact, they have separate tours on days of the full moon, to see this. The tombs were also very interesting to me. The tombs are about 10 feet under ground from the inside of the Taj. A few years ago, people have been able to go down and see them. But, since the temperature was so hot down there, people were actually dying from the heat. (Yikes!) So, they created a replica of the tombs and had them above for the visitors to see. The Taj Mahal was an amazing experience for me and made me very proud to be an Indian. If you guys visit India, I highly recommend seeing the Taj Mahal. If you liked this post, please be sure to leave me a comment, and share this post with all of your friends and family. Until next time, bye guys! - XOXO Sunny. |
